Wales parks toast two decades with new wildlife scheme

A Pembrokeshire family which swapped farming for a flourishing future in the leisure industry is this spring celebrating 20 years of success.

Celtic Holiday Parks, which owns three multi-award winning parks in the county, has become one of Wales's leading tourism providers.

But according to Huw Pendleton, who owns the business with his parents Vic and Ann, Celtic's anniversary year will be marked not just by a series of fun events.

He is also drawing up a series of environmental initiatives to reinforce the reputation of his parks as some of the greenest places to take a holiday in Wales.

It was in 1999 that the Pendletons sold the family's farm in Rhuallt, North Wales, and bought Croft Country Park in Narberth, Pembrokeshire.

Red alert as holiday park puts medical lifeline on call

Holiday park defibrillator

An iconic red phone box is now home to life-saving medical equipment at a remote rural holiday park in Lancashire, thanks to an initiative by its family owners.

Moss Wood Holiday Park in Cockerham near Lancaster has fully restored a classic K6 phone kiosk which is now installed at the park entrance and houses a  state-of-the-art defibrillator.

In the event of an emergency in the local community or on the park, the unit could greatly increase the chances of survival for someone suffering cardiac arrest.

With the park's hideaway location deep in the countryside, says Moss Wood's Henry Wild, the defibrillator can save vital minutes in providing treatment to a victim.

Cheshire park residents go wild in bid for green award

Couples living on the park enjoy river views from their retirement homes with their new green award

Residents at the tranquil Riverside retirement park in Cheshire are joining forces with its family owners to create a wildlife wonderland worthy of a major environmental green award.

Riverside Park in the village of Whitegate near Northwich has until later this summer to turn its grounds into a haven for birds and animals, including endangered species.

The park will then by visited by inspectors from the David Bellamy Award Scheme to see if its green credentials justify one of its prestigious accolades.

Sam Leigh-Jones, a member of the park-owning family, says the bid is receiving the full support of residents who live at Riverside.
