‘Santastic’ response to fundraising Salop Santa Dash

Salop Santa Dash

More than 300 runners, joggers and walkers of all ages entered the Christmas spirit by dressing up as Santa for this year’s Salop Santa Dash in Shrewsbury on Sunday.

The event, which raised £500 for the Zac Oliver Appeal, was declared a big success by organiser Salop Leisure.

The Santas could choose to run, jog or walk one or two laps of a 2.5-kilometre circuit around the 55-acre grounds of Salop Leisure and the Love2Stay resort.

The first runner completed the two laps in 19 minutes whereas others who were pushing children in pushchairs jogged and walked at a more leisurely pace.

Callander Woods Holiday Park Under New Ownership

Callander Woods Holiday Park

Summer saw the launch of a substantial investment project at Callander Woods Holiday Park, following its acquisition earlier this year by Wood Leisure. Located in the popular tourist town of Callander, Callander Woods holiday park is at the Eastern gateway to the Trossachs National Park and the dramatic Loch Lomond. It is also on the Rob Roy Way and the Birds of Prey Trail and is close to the famous Bracklinn Falls and the stunning Loch Katrine – meaning holiday makers can enjoy a great range of activities in the area. Within the upgrade plan, the majority of older static caravans have been upgraded to meet the high standards set within the holiday park group. In addition, brand new 2018 caravan holiday homes were introduced to the park.

Has the ‘Instagram effect’ hit caravanning, too?

Just this October, the iconic Club 18-30 was axed by holidaymakers Thomas Cook after a decade of plummeting sales. What brought Club 18-30’s inter-generational success to a relatively abrupt end? Thomas Cook blamed the rise of ‘ego travel’.

Essentially, this means people care more and more about what others think of their holidaying choices. Pictures snapped on holiday, therefore, must look luxurious. Anything else – such as those £300 package holidays in budget hotels – no longer cut the mustard.

Exciting new tours for Worldwide Motorhoming Holidays

Tours with Worldwide Motorhoming Holidays

Worldwide Motorhoming Holidays from The Camping and Caravanning Club has launched two new tours for 2019-20. The first tour, ‘Highlights of Sri Lanka’, is a shorter version of the popular ‘Splendours of Sri Lanka’ tour, first launched in October 2017. The new tour, as with the longer 30-day tour, is chauffeur-driven and covers all of the country’s top attractions in just 14 days.

The tour taps into the boom in overseas visitors to Sri Lanka; the number of inbound visitors to this island nation have increased from just over a million in 2012, to 2.7 million in 2017 and is expected to grow to 3 million or more by 2022.*

Nowadays campsite visitors are demanding more and more

5GHz WiFi

Nowadays campsite visitors are demanding more and more facilities from their campsite and access to the internet over WiFi is rapidly becoming de rigueur. With the modern busy lifestyle, visitors often require a WiFi internet connection for their laptop or mobile device so they can check email, catch up on social posts or simply check on an ebay bid! It is rapidly becoming a mandatory requirement now that a caravan site offers a stable and reliable WiFi internet connection and can often be the deciding factor as to whether a site is successful or not.

The days when an operator could get away with a simple WiFi router sat on the counter in the clubhouse are gone. Users now want a reliable site wide service which they can use outside or sitting in their 'van.

Using asset finance to fund the great British getaway

Arkle Finance

Daniel Bailey, managing director of Arkle Finance, discusses the financial options open to aspiring caravan owners.

Amid all the headscratching about the impact of Brexit, there has been one clear winner - the Great British Staycation.

The weak Pound has given a shot in the arm to Britain’s tourist industry as increasing numbers of Britons opt to holiday in the UK.

The trend has sparked extra interest in caravanning. The trade body the National Caravan Council recorded an 8.7% increase in touring caravan sales in 2017, and an impressive 14% surge in motorhome sales.

Mature planting brings instant returns

Mature planting brings instant returns

As all successful operators know, a holiday park business cannot rely solely on their location or the surrounding countryside and must provide attractive, functional spaces to make their site a destination in itself. Failing to understand the business need for well-maintained outdoor spaces, especially in failing to see them through the eyes of your customers, will lead to poor budgetary decisions and missed opportunities. Planting provides a softer effect than fences or walls for dividing areas for privacy and security
